From first message to first bird

Booking a tour with Alboreo is a conversation, not a checkout. Here’s what to expect:

Step 1: Get in touch

Send me a message through the form, WhatsApp, or email. Tell me your dates, who you’re travelling with, and what kind of experience you’re after. No need to have everything figured out, we can work it out together.

Step 2: I send a proposal

Within 48 hours I’ll come back with availability, a suggested itinerary, and pricing. If you have questions or want to adjust anything, we keep the conversation going until it feels right.

Step 3: Confirm & deposit

Once you’re happy with the plan, a deposit secures your dates. I’ll send an invoice with full payment details and terms.

Step 4: Pre-tour preparation

Closer to your trip, you’ll receive a detailed pre-tour pack: exact pickup times, packing list tailored to your specific itinerary, species briefing, hotel details, and any medical or logistical recommendations.

Step 5: We go birding

I’ll meet you at your accommodation or airport. From that moment, everything is taken care of, transport, meals, guides, access. You focus on the birds.

Good to know before you write

How far in advance should I book?

Most international clients book 6–12 months ahead, especially for peak season (November–March) when dates fill quickly. That said, last-minute enquiries are always welcome, get in touch and I’ll tell you what’s available.

Do you offer group departures or only private tours?

Right now, Alboreo operates primarily as private tours, meaning the experience is designed around you and your group, not shared with strangers. If you’re interested in joining a small departure with other birders, ask me and I’ll let you know if anything is planned.

Can I combine a birding tour with other activities?

Absolutely. Colombia’s birding regions are also rich in culture, hiking, and local food experiences. Many of my clients love mixing a morning of birding with an afternoon exploring a town, visiting a coffee farm, or doing a short walk. Just mention it when you get in touch.

Is Colombia safe for travellers?

This is the most common question I receive, and a very fair one. The short answer: yes, the regions where I operate are safe and welcoming. I’ve been guiding international visitors here for nine years without incident. I’m happy to talk through specifics for wherever you’re considering.

What if I need to cancel?

Life happens. Full cancellation terms are included in the booking confirmation.

I'm a beginner, is that okay?

More than okay. Some of my favourite tours have been with people who’d never held binoculars before. The joy of seeing your first tanager is something I never get tired of sharing. I’ll go at whatever pace suits you.

Do you offer photography-focused tours?

Yes. If photography is your priority, whether you’re shooting on a phone or a 600mm lens, just say so when you enquire and I’ll structure the day with more time at key spots, and light conditions in mind.
