Alboreo | Birding stories
Last updated: March 2026I started Alboreo in Jardín, a small town in the Colombian Andes, because I believe birding is better when nobody is counting the minutes. That conviction shapes everything about how I operate: the routes I design, the providers I choose, the pace I keep in the field, and the commitments I make to the places and communities that make each experience possible.
This document describes how I put those commitments into practice.
How I operate in the field
I design routes that respect the carrying capacity of each site. Before and during every tour, I share clear guidelines with travelers about responsible behavior around wildlife. I don’t facilitate access to restricted areas or activities that could harm birds or their habitats.
I work with natural reserves and landowners who actively conserve their territory, and I prioritize including them in my itineraries. I keep operations as paperless as possible: communication, itineraries, invoices, and proposals are handled digitally.
I use playback minimally and with criteria. Birds come first. Appropriate distances are non-negotiable, even when a client really wants a closer look.
The communities behind the birds
The birds I show exist because people have been taking care of the land where they live, often for generations. That relationship matters to me.
I prioritize hiring local guides, drivers, and support staff from the communities where I operate. I choose locally-owned accommodation and restaurants. I share the cultural and ecological context of each destination with my travelers, and I tell those stories with care and with the consent of the people involved.
I am committed to preventing the sexual exploitation of children and adolescents in tourism. This commitment is included in my agreements with providers.
Economic responsibility
The income from each tour should reach the territory, not just the operator. I work with local providers, community reserves, and independent guides. I’m transparent with clients about what’s included in the price and why.
Prices reflect the real cost of a careful operation. I meet all tax and legal obligations as a registered tour operator in Colombia.
Regulatory framework
Alboreo holds an active Registro Nacional de Turismo (RNT 191183) as a tour operator. I implement my sustainability management system in accordance with NTC 6502:2021, the Colombian standard for sustainability in travel agencies, updated per MinCIT Resolution 0612 of 2024.
This policy is reviewed annually and updated whenever operations or applicable regulations require it. It is available to clients, providers, and authorities upon request.
